I am interested in identifying candidate genes for complex diseases using computational and statistical genetics as well as sequential and structural bioinformatics. I am the Assistant Director of the Marshall University (MU) Data Science Core Facility (formerly Bioinformatics Core) and the WV-INBRE Data Science Core. I am a member of the Cardiovascular Disease Research Cluster (CDRC) and the Obesity and Related Diseases Cluster (ORDRC).

I was a Senior Fellow in Dr. Ellen M. Wijsman's Statistical Genetics Laboratory at the University of Washington and was a Postdoctoral Associate for the Coordinating Center of the Population Architecture using Genomics and Epidemiology (PAGE) study. Before admission to the Rutgers University (RU) - University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) Joint Doctoral Programs in Molecular Biosciences (now Rutgers Graduate Programs in Molecular Biosciences), I worked at the Health Physics Research Section of the Philippine Nuclear Research Institute as a Science Research Specialist where I was involved in projects on molecular biology, radiation biochemistry, and environmental radioactivity. My B.S. and M.S. degrees in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology were granted by the National Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology of the University of the Philippines. I have a Certificate of Concentration in Bioinformatics from UMDNJ. I earned my Ph.D. in Microbiology and Molecular Genetics / Computational Genetics in the lab of Dr. Tara C. Matise.
